JACK Bailey of Green Moor captained Yorkshire Rugby Academy under 17s this week.
Jack, who attends Queen Elizabeth Grammar (QEGS) school, plays number eight for the school first team.
He was previously with rugby league club Wakefield Trinity’s under 16s scholarship programme before switching over to the Yorkshire Rugby Union set-up. The 17-year-old spent most of childhood learning rugby in the suburbs of Paris with rugby club Garches Vaucresson, before returning to Yorkshire in summer 2018.
Jack led the Yorkshire under 17s last weekend at Leicester Tigers, who won 40-38 thanks to a try and conversion with the final action of the game.
He said: “We’re hugely disappointed to lose with the last kick of the game.
“I’m incredibly proud of this young group who played some outstanding attacking rugby.
“We now prepare well to play Bath Rugby Academy on May 11.”
After the match, Jack met England World Cup winner Martin Johnson whose son played for Leicester.
Meanwhile, Wath crashed out of the Papa John’s Cup, and missed out on a trip to Twickenham, with a 26-17 quarter-final loss at home to Veseyans.
Patrick Selkirk and Luke Stead scored tries with Jack Whitlam converting both and adding a penalty.
It has been a successful season overall for Wath who were promoted to Yorkshire Division One.
